Neon Lights: The Future of Effective OOH Campaigns

The PJX Media Newsletter: Volume XXXVI

Are you loyal to a company or brand? Why? The answer may be something that cannot be seen right away but it can be felt. When you are in their presence there is a feeling that you just want to be associated with. It’s comforting doing business with a company that goes above and beyond, every time. The only thing it costs them is usually a small amount of time but the rewards it can garner are immense. The companies that give that “little extra” turn clients into loyal followers.

You can feel that “little extra” in a company’s technology. It looks clean, the interface feels intuitive and you trust it. You know an immense amount of thought and testing went into its development. There may be some tech you use that feels clunky or you’re not comfortable navigating. Do you trust it? When you find that technology or that app that feels right and just clicks with you, do you trust the information it provides? That is the feeling you get from companies that give that “little extra” to make sure you feel confident using their technology and trust the information it provides.

You can feel that “little extra” in a company’s communication too. It’s not run-of-the-mill, cookie-cutter type stuff. It is succinct and there is always that “little extra” insight or a different take on a challenge you are facing that you don’t get elsewhere. It consists of the information that makes a difference and leaves you feeling like they understand you. Companies that can elevate their communication in this manner leave you feeling satisfied, so you trust them, and you may not know it, but you are becoming a loyal follower.

When analyzing the most recent data, advertising in airports has steadily increased as well and it has now become one of the few environments where large groups of people are together and have the dwell time to truly engage with brand messaging. Over the last 6-8 weeks, we’ve seen an increase in advertiser activity within the airport space from the travel & tourism, hotel, health & wellness, alcohol, luxury fashion and casino categories. As brands continue to fill the previously vacant space, iconic sites in the major airports (LAX, JFK, ORD, ATL) will be reaching high occupancy levels, and increased pricing.

We will continue to provide updates on various markets across the country in the coming weeks, and if you ever have specific questions, you can always reach out to hello@pjxmedia.com.

Market Update: Airports & Air Travel

We shift our focus this week from specific US cities, to domestic air travel and how it’s been trending over the past few months. As we all know, in the early days of the pandemic, air travel came to a relative halt, and while the industry has been taking extreme measures to ensure the health and safety of its staff and passengers, it has been a relatively slow recovery for most carriers. That was, until the Sunday after Thanksgiving when the TSA screened 1MM+ daily passengers for the first time since the beginning of March 2020. Since then, we’ve started to see a steep and steady increase in daily TSA screenings, most notably due to the continued proliferation of vaccines across the country.

This past Sunday we reached another milestone, with 1,850,531 passengers passing through TSA checkpoints across the country, by far the most passengers we’ve seen since the pandemic began. With 61 consecutive days of 1MM+ passengers, domestic air travel is really starting to come back in a significant way. As we quickly approach Memorial Day Weekend, AAA Travel has forecasted more than 37MM Americans are expected to travel (domestic getaways & road trips remain at the top), a 60% increase from 2020 when only 23MM people traveled, the lowest Memorial Day on record since the company began recording data in 2000.
